Questions people ask

Can Duri open my Kindle, Apple Books or Kobo books?

No. Books bought there are locked to those apps, and no other reader can open them. Duri opens the files you own: EPUB, PDF, CBZ, text and Markdown.

How do I get books in?

Tap + in the library: from Files or iCloud Drive, from another app's Share menu ("Open in Duri"), from your computer over Wi‑Fi, from a catalogue, by pasting a link to an article, or by scanning pages with the camera.

The voice takes a moment to start.

The first sentence takes a second or two while the voice's model loads and the sentence is made; the play button spins while it does. After that the next sentence is always ready before the current one ends. Changing the voice or the speed makes the current sentence again, so it too takes a moment.

Does Duri use AI?

Only Apple's, and only on the device. On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence, Duri can recap a chapter (swipe it in the contents), explain a passage you select, offer Writing Tools in your notes and take Siri's requests. Nothing is sent to a server, a recap says plainly that the device made it and can be wrong, and Settings has one switch that turns all of it off. On an iPhone without Apple Intelligence these features do not appear.

The voice does not speak my book's language.

Duri's own voice speaks thirty‑one languages. For any other, the system's voices read instead. A fresh iPhone has the compact ones; in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, download a voice marked Premium or Enhanced, and Duri uses the best one it finds.

What does Duri Pro add?

Unlimited listening (ten minutes a day are free), iCloud sync, ten more themes and five accents, your own fonts, quote cards and PDF export of notes. It is one purchase, once, and Family Sharing is on. Restore it from Settings → Duri Pro on any device signed into the same Apple Account.

Where are my notes?

The Highlights tab gathers every book's. Export them as Markdown or plain text from any book's page or from Settings → Library, always, for free. You can also have them written to a folder (Obsidian, iCloud Drive) whenever they change.

Does anything leave my device?

Nothing, unless you turn on iCloud sync, which uses your own iCloud. See the privacy policy.

Something is wrong.

Write and say what you did, what you expected and what happened instead, with the kind of file if a file is involved. Nothing about your reading reaches us on its own, so a note from you is the only way we hear of a fault.
