Terms of use

These are the terms for using Duri, an app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch made by its developer ("we"). They are written to be read. By installing or using Duri you agree to them; if you do not, please do not use the app.

What Duri is

Duri is a reader for files you already have: EPUB, PDF, comics, text, Markdown and pages saved from the web. It does not sell books, host content or hold an account for you. Apple's own terms for apps from the App Store apply alongside these.

Your licence to use it

We give you a personal, non‑transferable licence to use Duri on devices you own or control, under Apple's usage rules. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the app, except where the law lets you regardless of these terms.

Your files are yours

Everything you bring into Duri, and everything you make in it, stays yours: your books, highlights, notes, drawings and settings. We claim no rights to them and never see them. You are responsible for having the right to read the files you open. Duri does not remove copy protection and cannot open books locked to another store.

Duri Pro

Duri Pro is a one‑time purchase made through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment, the receipt and any refund under its own terms; we do not receive your payment details. Pro is tied to your Apple Account and can be restored on any device signed into it, and shared through Family Sharing where Apple allows it. Ten minutes of listening a day are free without Pro; the limit is stated in the app before you reach it.

iCloud sync

If you turn on sync, your data travels through your own iCloud account under Apple's terms and stays under your control. We do not operate the servers and cannot recover data from them. Keep your own copies of files that matter to you.

Content from elsewhere

Catalogues, feeds and web pages you open through Duri belong to their publishers. Duri fetches them at your request, as a browser would, and is not responsible for what they contain or whether they stay available.

The voice, recognition and summaries

Reading aloud, text recognition of scanned pages and summaries run on your device. They can be wrong: a name mispronounced, a word misread, a summary that misses the point. They are aids to reading, not a substitute for the text. The bundled voice model is provided under an open licence whose use restrictions are shown in the app's acknowledgements; you agree not to use it to impersonate, deceive or harm anyone.

No warranty

Duri is provided as it is. We work to make it reliable, but we do not promise it will be free of faults or suit every purpose, and we do not promise any particular file will open or read well. To the extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties not stated here.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost data, arising from your use of Duri. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Duri Pro, if anything. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.

Changes

We may change Duri and these terms. If the terms change, the date at the top changes and the new terms apply from then; a change that matters will be mentioned in the app's release notes. If you keep using Duri after a change, you accept it.

Ending

You can stop using Duri at any time by deleting it; your files are yours to keep. We may end the licence if you break these terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without prejudice to consumer protections where you live.
